The Russian playbook is very simple: They know that they have no hope against the US/NATO in any large scale exchange, so they have to cow us into deferring to them. 🇺🇸🇦🇺 Australia will commence GMLRS AUR assembly next year, and progressively move towards production of all subcomponents.
Australia will also receive technical data on the M795 155mm artillery shell in support of localized production! Thales Australia had announced back in 2021 that would produce M795 by 2022 but this has seemingly not come to fruition, given that they are still talking about the technology transfer.
Production would likely be undertaken by Thales' Australian Munitions subsidiary, who operate GOCOs in Benalla in Victoria and Mulwala in New South Wales on behalf of the Australian government. AM currently just produces 81mm mortar & 5 inch naval munitions in the large calibre category.
