❗🇺🇲🇺🇦 The glacial pace of contracting to support Ukraine continues.
The US Department of Defense has awarded GD-OTS, Global Military Products, and Premier Precision Machining the right to compete for each order of a $212 million 5-year Firm Fixed Price, Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity contract to produce 81mm & 60mm mortar shell bodies.
Even across a 5-year period, this is a large contract for metal parts for mortar ammunition. The US Army has budgeted just $8.7 million in FY24 for the procurement of 81mm & 60mm mortar shell bodies. Assuming roughly equivalent buys in future years, this would only be ~$44 million across the life of the contract. Even accounting for potentially larger buys in the future, it's hard to see how the Army will buy $212 million worth of shell bodies for itself in that period.
This indicates to me that the high ceiling for this contract is due to Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds be...

@Rickbrick75: Europe has way more companies producing mortar ammunition than the US. I don't know why people keep asking me about Europe though when I keep explaining that most European countries do not disclose their military aid or production figures. I post whatever information I can find.

RT @Tatarigami_UA: The situation in the Pokrovsk direction is critical, with defenses in several areas collapsed and yet to stabilize, largely due to a shortage of personnel. Diverting nearly a brigade to launch an assault on Kursk Oblast, which lacks strategic sense, borders on mental disability
