RT @NATO_JWC: The JWC leadership & staff conducted a field study in the area of Helleland (@EigersundK) 🇳🇴, focusing on the British-led Operation Freshman, as the first Allied glider-borne raid of World War Two, initiating the Allied Heavy Water (#tungtvann) campaign in #Norway in 1942-44.
Staff rides help develop a better understanding of the operational art of war through the study of military history, with the purpose to draw conclusions that may support #NATO training for future operations. This study also helped reflecting on the sacrifices made on both sides during the campaign.
The field study concluded at Slettebø with a remembrance ceremony in order to pay tribute to the casualties of Operation Freshman.
