A common misconception:
Ukraïne doesn't need to reach the Sea of Azov, it just need to be able to get artillery fire on the 'land bridge'.
And then it's "Kherson isolation" all over again: both supply lines, the land bridge and the Kerch Bridge will be very vulnerable. (Remember Nova Kakhovka and Antonovsky) The occupation forces in the West territories, including whole of Crimea, will see their supplies degrading.
It's Ukraine who is using time to reach this objective.
By choosing Power VS Power on the Counter Offensive Axes Ukraine is making sure that, if they breach/reach the ideal fire possitions, Russia is not able to immediatly counter attack and push them out.
Russia committing elements of one of their best divisions to the Tokmak Axis, can also be seen as an indicator.
