I disagree, USVs as fielded by the Ukrainians, doesn't represent anything conceptually new.

Fireships, mines, torpedoes and torpedo boats, submarines, aircraft, underwater special operations units, anti-ship missiles, USVs.

USVs are a product of evolution, not revolutionary.

In countering USVs, I think it's mostly about relearning old lessons in a modern environment.

For close in defense of a ship, one needs more barrels than your average warship of today ranging in caliber from 7.62 to about 30mm, both manual directed and with modern fire controls

And as always, it's better to kill the threat before the weapon is launched, an intel, targeting and strike task.

That said, I do believe there's good potential in USVs.
Especially for coastal operations in environments such as the Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish littorals, complementing existing capabilities.
