All these factors have been discussed well in advance so "we didn't see this coming" is a poor excuse.

Earlier reports suggested that the commander of the VDV's 106th Airborne Division Major General Vladimir Selivyorstov has been relieved, but he was with Tula Governor Dyumin today demonstrating that he is still in command (he was reportedly on vacation).

Telegram channels association with the VDV previously said that he was on vacation as was the commander of the 7th Air Assault Division, Major General Kornev. There were reports that Kornev had been relieved too.
