@MatBabiak The same thing happened in March when the largest Russian missile strike with several bombers taking off firing over 100 Cruise Missiles was reported. But they fired 48, same today. Reports of +100 Cruise Missiles launched were released, but they launched 18. All that for nothing

The Ukrainian Air Force says 9 Russian Tu-95 strategic bombers from Murmansk Oblast and two Tu-160 strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea area launched 18 Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles, 15 of which were shot down.

@Doha104p3 Patriots may have been used. Initially, reports came out that US was planning on sending Ukraine PAC-2 Patriot missiles to intercept Ballistic missiles

However, Ukraine may be getting both Patriot air defense missiles against Ballistic missiles and newer ones for Cruise missiles

A large number of bombers for such a low number of missiles.

There might have been more going on than meets the eye.
One possible explanation is that they are trying to map Ukrainian AD locations and actions/reactions.
