Why Ukraine 🇺🇦 has been using fewer HIMARS missiles lately

Since last June, Ukraine has received at least 20 HIMARS and 13 M270 launchers

If each HIMARS and M270 launcher got fully reloaded and fired daily, it would equate to 275 GMLRS missiles used per day, costing $46 million

Over a year that would equate to 100,000 GMLRS missiles fired, costing $17 Billion

Reuters recently reported that Lockheed Martin makes 4,600 GMLRS missiles per year

According to the manufacturer Lockheed Martin, Over 50,000 GMLRS missiles have been produced since the mid-2000s

Since 2005, US 🇺🇸 has used thousands of GMLRS missiles in combat including against ISIS, against the Taliban, in Iraq, in Afghanistan, and in Syria

US put many missiles into their own stockpile, sent them to allies, and sent about 10,000 GMLRS missiles to Ukraine since last June

It would not be realistic for Ukraine to be firing 275 GMLRS missiles daily because no more would exist within less than six months

If that many GMLRS missiles were fired daily by Ukraine, then in a year, they would fire 100,000 missiles when only about 4,600 are produced yearly

Initially, when Ukraine began using HIMARS last year, they only received 4 HIMARS launchers that would be on the move all the time

During that time, it’s estimated Ukraine could’ve been firing 50 GMLRS missiles or more on average per day, and they would do massive strikes weekly

Now, Ukraine fires about 10-25 GMLRS missiles on average per day over time. However, on certain days, they may fire 30 or more GMLRS missiles

Ukraine conserves its GMLRS missile stock by not firing an entire pod of 6 missiles at a single target but firing 1 or 2 missiles instead

There are also occasions when 24 GMLRS missiles are fired all at once using several M270 and HIMARS launchers, as seen in released videos

These massive strikes could be striking multiple targets at once and fired to overwhelm Russian air defenses in areas with high-value targets

The main reason why Ukraine is firing fewer GMLRS missiles recently is likely due to a smaller stockpile and the current production rate

One other potential reason why Ukraine 🇺🇦 fires fewer GMLRS missiles is that they could be saving up to use many during their Spring Offensive
