Worth mentioning that when announcing the decision to buy Leopard 2A7s earlier today, the Norwegian Prime Minister once again said that "an iron curtain again divides Europe"

I think this is significant and a signal of how Oslo views the current situation.

@Wolltigerhueter There are a number of common German-Norwegian programs already under way, the Type 212CD subs and joint procurement of Naval Strike Missiles. Oslo is also looking to Germany to help secure undersea gas infrastructure.

For the new MBT, the K2 was probably somewhat of an outsider

Good to see the Leopard 1s being sent to Ukraine, but the availability of 105mm tank ammunition is to me an unanswered question.

Hopefully someone has a sizable amount of rounds locked away somewhere.

In addition to the stored Leopard 1 A5, the Spiegel reports that 29 of those vehicles could be readied on a short notice. The company Flensburger Fahrzeugbaugesellschaft (FFG) could supply them in the next weeks.

@Wolltigerhueter We have been buying German equipment since the 60s, so choosing German for a large program again doesn't suprise me.

🇩🇪 has granted an export license for Leopard 1 main battle tanks to 🇺🇦. According to SPIEGEL, there are 29 largely refurbished models.

@CorporalFrisk The way I interpret the recent political signals is that more will likely come.

There seems to be a political shift underway, a realization what this "brave new world" with a new iron curtain, requires in terms of increasing Norwegian military capabilities and spending.
