Another interesting question is what does this mean for Surovikin? It seemed he was double hatting as commander of the VKS and Southern Military District over the summer. Is he just the VKS commander now (and Gerasimov's deputy) or also overseeing force groupings in Ukraine?

The Rybar channel says that Colonel General Sergey Kuzovlev has been appointed the Southern Military District Commander. He began the war as the YuVO Chief of Staff and then was the acting commander of the Western Military District before Nikiforov.

I missed this, but Nikolai Gastello, which is written on the munition, was a Soviet pilot who allegedly deliberately rammed his aircraft into a panzer column during World War II. (h/t @Mortis_Banned)
