🇷🇺 Russia is establishing a new Aviation Corps near the Finnish / Norwegian border.

On November 20th RU MOD and TASS released footage of two new Mi-8MTV-5M helicopters that were recently handed over to the Northern Fleet Mixed Air Corps. In 2022 Admiral Alexander Moiseyev of the Northern Fleet, announced plans for the reconstruction of 7(+2) airfields in the arctic region. Among these was Severomorsk-2 - an abandoned airfield 5km West of the Severomorsk-1 airbase in Murmansk.

Satellite images shows reconstruction works started around 2021 while a partial helicopter squadron was deployed sometime around 2021-22. Numbers of helicopters seem to decrease from 2023 and only three units are visible at the time of the 2025 image. If this is related to material moved south to replenish losses in Ukraine is unknown.

Even though Severomorsk-2 previously housed the 403rd Composite Aviation Regiment, evidence suggest this base was reactivated as base for parts of the 830th Composite Aviation Regiment.
