RT @RALee85: "Russian strikes in recent days have wiped out more than half of Ukraine’s domestic natural gas production, likely forcing the war-battered country to spend 1.9 billion euros ($2.2 billion) on fuel imports to survive the looming winter.
Kyiv told its allies earlier this week that a massive Russian barrage targeting the Kharkiv and Poltava regions on Oct. 3 took out roughly 60% of the country’s gas production, according to people with knowledge of the matter. They requested anonymity because the discussions are private...
If the strikes continue, Ukraine expects it will need to buy roughly 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of March, at a cost of nearly 2 billion euros, according to people familiar with the details. That’s the equivalent of nearly 20% of Ukraine’s annual consumption."

"Sergii Koretskyi, chief executive of Naftogaz, Ukraine’s state energy company, said in an interview that Russia was again seeking to sap morale with targeted strikes on energy infrastructure, as it has every year since 2022. The difference this time, Koretskyi said, was in the frequency and scale of the attacks — with hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles on an almost nightly basis...
An October 3 attack on facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions was described by Koretskyi as 'the most massive and the most aggressive attack since the full-scale invasion started'. He earlier said that a 'significant portion' of Naftogaz infrastructure was damaged in the assault, with 'some of the destruction' described as critical. A second massive attack on gas infrastructure followed on Sunday, targeting gas storage facilities.
Maxim Timchenko, the chief executive of DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private energy company, told the FT that 'our assets are being attacked...

"President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that a Russian air defense system was responsible for the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines passenger jet that killed 38 people in December, a rare admission that could ease almost yearlong tensions with Baku.
Putin told Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at talks in Tajikistan on Thursday that air defenses were tracking three Ukrainian drones in Russian airspace at the time. Debris from two missiles that exploded roughly 10 meters away from the jet could have damaged the plane, he said."

"Russian forces have struck energy facilities in several oblasts over the past 24 hours, leaving consumers without power in parts of Ukraine as of the morning...
Damage to equipment has forced Chernihivoblenergo, Chernihiv Oblast's distribution system operator, to implement rolling power outages across three queues simultaneously...
Ukrenergo adds that electricity consumption remains high. As of 9:30 on 9 October, demand matched the previous day.
Quote: 'The reason is the persistent cloudy weather with rain across almost all of Ukraine. This reduces the efficiency of residential solar panels and leads to a corresponding rise in electricity consumption from the general grid.'"
