🇬🇪 #Georgia: Mass protests began in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, against the backdrop of local elections.

The opposition parties reported alleged violations at polling stations.

Demonstrators gathered around the Orbeliani Palace - the official residence of the president of Georgia. Some attempted to break into the territory of it. Clashes with security forces are underway.

Georgia's President Salome Zourabichvili condemned the actions of the protesters, saying: "This travesty of seizing the presidential palace could only be staged by the regime to discredit the 310-day global protest of the Georgian people. As the legitimate president, I officially reject this and continue to stand with my people around the world until we achieve new elections."

@CazadorDeWulf: I see what you mean, but I don't believe it's really that discrediting. Perhaps "mass protest action" would be more suitable here, to not confuse it with the 310-day campaign, but that's all.

Mass protests are underway in Georgia’s capital Tbilisi after fraudulent municipal elections. Demonstrators accuse the pro-Russian Georgian Dream government of losing legitimacy and demand a peaceful transfer of power. Crowds have marched to the presidential palace and attempted to break through its gates. Police responded with tear gas and water cannon, and there are reports of injuries and arrests.
