🌊A powerful magnitude 8.8 earthquake just struck off the coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula on July 30, 2025. The quake occurred at a depth of approximately 19 km, about 120–135 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

It is the strongest earthquake recorded in the region since 1952, when a magnitude 9.0 quake triggered a devastating tsunami.

This event is also the most powerful earthquake anywhere in the world since the magnitude 9.1 Tōhoku earthquake in Japan in 2011, making it one of the six largest earthquakes ever measured globally.
