RT @Shayan86: A completely fake video bearing the logo of South Africa's public broadcaster @SABCNews has gone viral online, racking up millions of views. It falsely claims President Zelensky has purchased a 51% stake worth $1.6bn in Northam Platinum, a major mining company in South Africa.
The fake video was not produced by SABC News as no copy of it can be found on the broadcaster's website or on any of its official social media accounts.
There's no evidence for the supposed "news" about Zelensky buying $1.6bn in Northam Platinum either as no such information exists on the company's website, nor has it been ever reported by any news source in South Africa.
The clip bears the hallmarks of the work of a Russia-based influence operation spearheaded by John Mark Dougan, a former Florida cop who is now based in Russia. The operation uses AI to create viral fake news stories about Ukraine and Zelensky.
