Russian media: “A Chinese vessel that ran aground off Sakhalin, Russia, may be cut up. Since there is little chance to move it.

The bulk carrier An Yang 2, loaded with 700 tons of fuel oil and 1,000 tons of coal, was holed and ran aground in the Nevelsky District on the evening of February 8. Divers who are supposed to carefully inspect the bulk carrier for leaks cannot get to it because of the weather. And only after the inspection will it become clear what can be done.

There are two options. The first: try to "rock" the An Yang 2 to get it off the sandbank. This option is unlikely, because there are no bulk carriers of comparable or greater capacity on Sakhalin. The second option: remove all the cargo, evacuate the crew and dispose of the An Yang 2 by cutting it up. Which will take several years.”
