At least 18 people have died because of political persecution in Belarus since 2020
On November 1, it became known about the death of political prisoner Dmitry Shletgauer in penal colony No.15. According to preliminary data, the 22-year-old man died on October 11.
Today, @zerkalo_io reported that in the death certificate of Dmitry, which the family received, the cause of death was indicated as “mechanical asphyxia.” Journalists note that very often such a record is made in suicide cases, but the colony’s administration didn’t tell Dmitry’s family what exactly happened to him.
According to human rights activists, since 2020, 7 political prisoners have died behind bars, and since 2020, at least 18 people have died because of persecution for political reasons, and this number is not final.

@dillonrpayton: Yes I think that he was actually hoping that he wouldn't get picked, and may have even turned her down. There were other options though. Walz was really one of the worst possible choices.
