On defense, the war and support to Ukraine, European countries need to rapidly step up, as insurance and a hedge against that uncertainty.

I don't expect the continent to suddenly speak with one voice. We are too fragmented and pinning our hopes on this would be waste of time

Instead, I think the right approach is single or small groups of countries stepping up, taking the lead by example.

This is going to cost but I don't see an alternative.

If we want to try, for real, to avoid Russian victory, the window is closing.

A Russian victory, in addition to the uncertainty, would require vastly higher defence spending in Europe, much quicker, than even the ambitious plans of the Norwegian Defence Pledge.

This is a gloomy outlook but no outcome is given and, while Europe needs to step up, do grieve in advance for everything.

As said before, we don't know what a Trump admin actually ends up doing.

For now, NATO exists as today. US aid to Ukraine hasn't stopped.

Under Trump's previous term, the US - Norwegian bilateral defense and security relationship grew stronger.

I am an Atlanticist and believe we need to, and can, maintain a strong bond across the ocean. Don't write the US off completely just yet.

If there’s US pulls support, Ukraine has 0 reasons to abide by any previous US escalation lines. There’s a lot of drone and other capabilities that Ukraine hasn’t fully used because of the US limitations.
I’d hope UA is seriously considering putting them back on the table and moving forward with utilizing those capabilities.

Regardless, we will fight on, with or without America. I’d be more fearful about Taiwan and what will happen there in the next few years.
