33rd Brigade of Ukraine repels Russian attacks on the Donetsk front. Russian assaults on this direction have been ongoing for 2 days in a row:

«After a long silence without armored offensives, Russians gathered their strength and went forward. 27 units of equipment and about a company of infantry.

In total, Russians lost 16 pieces of equipment and more than 60 personnel. We have held our positions and are holding the defense lines»

People get fixated on US defense spending in absolute terms (over $800 billion) and lose sight of how little that is in relative terms. The $200-$300 billion throughout the 80s is substantially more than $800 billion today. Inflation impacts the DoD too, not just your groceries. https://twitter.com/AirPowerNEW1/status/1837553402995212326#m

Spending as a % of GDP is the correct metric to use to understand this. Rather than trying to adjust figures for inflation, just compare what was spent during the first Cold War to the current Cold War. There's no way to replicate what was achieved back then on a beer budget.
