@MikeXEverson: They've done that.

@John_A_Ridge: Tanks have better armor than IFVs or APCs. It still makes sense to use tanks in this way to lead a column than an MT-LB.

@Dragonite198 @John_A_Ridge: Yes, and many of mine-rollers are designed to be used by tanks.

Valid points by Rob here.

@John_A_Ridge: Tanks withstand mines, RPGs, and other munitions better than MT-LB. It still makes sense to lead with a tank.

@John_A_Ridge: TERV units receive T-55, and when they ordered to conduct assaults, they conduct them with the equipment they have.

@Vnark @John_A_Ridge: Because they have lost a lot of tanks and armored vehicles, but the point is that none of our tanks are designed primarily to deal with FPVs.
Rob Lee (Twitter)

@John_A_Ridge: I think the point is to keep most of the dismounts on the vehicles behind the lead tank.

@John_A_Ridge @Vnark: I literally said this adaptation is not necessarily relevant to us.

@nik0p0l5 @SpBDaveTDC @AndrewPerpetua: Yes, and the T-55 were being used down there by TERV units in assault because that is what they received. So we may continue to see poorly-equipped units using those kind of vehicles and better-equipped units using regular tanks and IFVs.

@John_A_Ridge @Vnark: We will need to come up with countermeasures to protect our tanks from FPVs, and those countermeasures will not necessarily be the same as Russia's. FPVs may not be the most significant threat to our tanks in a different war fought against a different adversary.
