Doing a combined arms breach through fortified Russian lines without air superiority was always going to be difficult and involve losses. But the footage we have seen isn't necessarily representative of the entire counteroffensive and we should wait to make strong conclusions.

The conditions for this counteroffensive are not as favorable as they were in Kharkiv where Russia's defenses were very weak. That doesn't mean it will fail, but it means Ukraine will have to breach multiple lines of defenses to succeed, which will take time and involve losses.

@sause_wirke Agreed partially.
I will just remind though how Kherson offensive started off. From May until September there were lots of false starts with multiple films of UAF losses (e.g. Davydiv Brid multiple times). I admit though many differences to Kherson. This will be harder.

@BuddyYakov @bobmoretti Ukrainian forces are trying to advance north and south of Bakhmut, but, unless they commit some of the new brigades there, not clear if they can achieve more than tactical gains. Certainly possible that Ukraine tries for a push up on the Kreminna-Svatove line as well.
