RT @shashj: US Europe command: “At approximately 7:03 AM (CET), one of the Russian Su-27 aircraft [over the Black Sea] struck the propeller of the MQ-9, causing U.S. forces to have to bring the MQ-9 down in international waters.”

Good thread by @MassDara on various hazardous Russian intercepts over the Black Sea in the past decade or so.

@MassDara:
We've done research on Russian coercive signaling, which today's MQ-9/SU-27 incident was. It's a close pass that went bad. There are patterns of how Russian platforms intercept U.S. or NATO platforms operating near Russia but in international airspace/waters. Context below. https://t.co/Kq2sTHwE5c

@35th_potus @Porter_Anderson @MarkHertling @brikeilarcnn @NATO The Russian Fighter Jet dumped fuel multiple times on the US drone then hit its propeller causing it to crash. It's not an error, it was a deliberate attack. Use your common sense.

@Porter_Anderson @MarkHertling @brikeilarcnn @NATO A demarche does nothing to stop Russia from doing this again. Have they not learned anything from the past 30 years?

"There was [a] deliberate intent to interfere with the MQ-9, but the collision seems to be simple incompetence," an Air Force official separately told The War Zone https://t.co/4XjfNKsr0n

@Porter_Anderson @MarkHertling @brikeilarcnn @NATO A mistake? Are we living on the same planet? This was a purposeful attack, the Russian Su-27 fighter jet dumped fuel on USA’s drone multiple times then hit it's propellor causing it to crash. That's not a big mistake.

@El_Cosanostra @KinyanBoy Do you have anything to say on the Black Sea incident? After one of you got shot down today?

/2. This is almost the same place from where Russians launched anti-tank missiles at civilian vessels just for fun. And presumably the same place from which the Turkish ship "Tuzla" was sunk in the port of Kherson https://t.co/IwpsxkNeyK

Russian Defense Ministry released the official statement concerning today's incident over the Black Sea.

The Russians claim that a US MQ-9 Reaper UCAV fell into the water due to its "sharp maneuvering." They deny that there was any contact between Russian and American aircraft.

Here's the full press release of the @US_EUCOM regarding the incident involving a US MQ-9 and Russian Su-27 over the Black Sea.

According to the US Air Force General James B. Hecker, "this unsafe and unprofessional act by the Russians nearly caused both aircraft to crash.” https://t.co/ti2JLP7b9G https://t.co/1oD42rMRq1

@sukey94 As things stand now, I don't see many escalatory pathways from this particular incident, so I think little will change in NATO - Russia relations because of it.

Keep calm and carry on is the order of the day.
