This incident can be interpreted as signaling, as it seems to have been deliberate.

However, my heart rate still remains calm.

In addition to the historical data below, the Soviets shot down two Swedish aircraft in 1952, and there was KAL 007, in the cold year 1983.

@The_Lookout_N:
Seems like aggressive Russian Su-27 deliberately collided with a Reaper UAV to bring it down

To those concerned, some 200 US servicemen were killed during numerous Soviet shoot-downs of US recce flights during the Cold War

Iran took down a RQ-4 in 2019

The fallout of today's events will be handled through the proper diplomatic channels and NATO ops in international airspace over the Black Sea will continue.

The latter prehaps with additional backup, exemplfied by the current RAF practice of escorting their RC-135 flights

The White House 🇺🇸 said it’s “not uncommon” for Russia to intercept US aircraft. However, Tuesday’s incident was unique in how “unsafe, unprofessional, and reckless” it was

Russia didn't intercept USA’s Drone; they purposefully made it crash, the same as shooting a missile at it

@GeorgeRafeletos You mean 50.6%. I took the measurements of Bakhmut’s total residential area, and the area that Ukraine currently holds. A lot of analysis was put into getting the frontline correct. As of now it's 50.6%, I could be off by like 0.2% to 0.4%. but a lot of data was factored into it.… https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1635705475332296706

The United States summoned the Russian Ambassador in Washington to the State Department in connection with the incident over the Black Sea.

Here's the full press release of the @US_EUCOM regarding the incident involving a US MQ-9 and Russian Su-27 over the Black Sea.

According to the US Air Force General James B. Hecker, "this unsafe and unprofessional act by the Russians nearly caused both aircraft to crash.” https://t.co/ti2JLP7b9G https://t.co/1oD42rMRq1

RT @shashj: US Europe command: “At approximately 7:03 AM (CET), one of the Russian Su-27 aircraft [over the Black Sea] struck the propeller of the MQ-9, causing U.S. forces to have to bring the MQ-9 down in international waters.”

Good thread by @MassDara on various hazardous Russian intercepts over the Black Sea in the past decade or so.

@MassDara:
We've done research on Russian coercive signaling, which today's MQ-9/SU-27 incident was. It's a close pass that went bad. There are patterns of how Russian platforms intercept U.S. or NATO platforms operating near Russia but in international airspace/waters. Context below. https://t.co/Kq2sTHwE5c

@35th_potus @Porter_Anderson @MarkHertling @brikeilarcnn @NATO The Russian Fighter Jet dumped fuel multiple times on the US drone then hit its propeller causing it to crash. It's not an error, it was a deliberate attack. Use your common sense.

@Porter_Anderson @MarkHertling @brikeilarcnn @NATO A demarche does nothing to stop Russia from doing this again. Have they not learned anything from the past 30 years?
