#Ukraine: We continue to discover more and more strange weapons being supplied to Ukraine: the Territorial Defense Forces of Zaporizhzhia shared photos of previously unseen shells, which we IDed as J-M49A2 60mm mortar bombs with J-M52A2 fuzes - both manufactured by Japan 🇯🇵!

We were not the first who noticed them but for some reason these were reported to be Taiwanese mortar bombs. This was already denied by the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of China - and we completely agree with this.

As we believe, these mortar bombs were manufactured by the Japanese company Daikin Industries (previously known as Osaka Kinzoku Kogyosho) - they are known to manufacture various projectiles for the Japan Self-Defense Forces.

It is unclear when these mortar bombs were made - but as @SHIMASHObio (thanks a lot for your help) says some characters are Kanji and are not currently widely used. A better view on lot numbers is required to ID the date of manufacturing.

This is indeed an interesting case since it is basically one of the first times when Japanese-made weapons can be identified being used of Japan.
To be fair, there is a possibility of transferring these weapons to Ukraine through third countries but there is no confirmation yet.
