The @BackAndAlive Foundation is funding the upgrade of 16 ZSU-23-4M “Shilka” air defence systems to the A1 standardfor ₴337.5 million ($8.06 million).

At the moment Shilka is largely outdated and struggles to fulfil modern short-range air-defence roles. It’ll be interesting to see whether this upgrade can actually bring the system back to life and make it truly useful again.

They almost entirely use PAC-2s, which are very ineffective at intercepting Iskander-M and Kinzhal ballistic missiles. Buying more Patriots doesn’t address the problem, which is Ukraine not recovering PAC-3 MSE
