"The current [GPI] program is really not set up for success." -MDA official

The Glide Phase Interceptor, which will defeat hypersonic threats, will not reach Initial Operating Capability until 2035 with current funding levels.

With "appropriate" resourcing it could be ready as early as 2028.

GPI is currently being developed for the Missile Defense Agency jointly by Northrop Grumman and MHI in Japan.
