I have never seen, and I doubt I ever will, so many of Ukraine’s finest sons and daughters as in Azov. I am who I am thanks to the unit and the people with whom I spent more than ten years. I am grateful to those who were there even in the days when Azov was a battalion and later a newly formed regiment — it is inspiring to see you now forming the backbone of some of the most capable combat units. I also want to thank the Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Oleksandr Pivnenko, for the reforms that have strengthened the NGU and led to the formation of its brigades — now among the most effective units within Ukraine’s Defense Forces. I am not the Ukrainian leadership, I am an American citizen who has freedom of speech and can have an opinion which in this case is based on actual facts. We don’t live in Russia where you can’t have your own opinion and then be threatened if you do.
