RT @dex_eve: Something extremely notable: EU is now sanctioning Chinese commercial satellite imaging firms supplying Russian forces. I don't recall seeing this before and its notable for the industry.

RT @cepa: “Europe will need to continue to procure major amounts of arms from the US in any case, as it can’t realistically divest from 63% of its procurement portfolio, but that figure can be reduced through greater domestic investment.” @ColbyBadhwar buff.ly/41BQedH

Europe Needs to Keep Buying American
Europe has spent more on the war in Ukraine than the US, boosting American arms makers, but it will need to keep buying American for now.

RT @hughhewitt: “Should Merz fail to reverse a two-year recession, stanch a seemingly unstoppable flow of asylum seekers into the country, and orchestrate a European response to the challenges coming from the new U.S. administration, analysts and politicians say the AfD could win the next election in 2029—or possibly sooner if the coming government breaks apart like its predecessor.
‘The fact that the AfD has now doubled its score and gone from 4.8 million votes to 10.3 million votes,’ Merz told journalists on Monday, ‘That’s truly the final warning sign for the parties of the democratic center in Germany that we need to find solutions together.’” @WSJ
All of Part One of “News Items” this AM is devoted to parsing the German election results. The pro-Russian party AdF won the biggest increase in votes.
You have to read and read and read to discover much more about AdF than what @DouglasKMurray has noted about the “curate’s egg” the party represents. Thanks to @ColbyBadhwar for sending me the data on the ties of the AdF to Putin which is reason enough to refuse to deal with them.
Merz can talk all week. When Germany substantially increases its commitment to its own defense and the defense of NATO, perhaps Americans will soften a bit on Europe. Our defense dollars have to be prioritized on China. Europe’s nation’s must provide the vast bulk of their own security needs and help with our protection of global freedom.

RT @dex_eve: Looks like US sanctioned some of these firms two years ago basically immediately after the partnerships got started, but this is the first time I've seen something like it in EU data.

@xaliu5: The formation of way too many new, not combat effective brigades, instead of shoring up the existing ones, is a problem the Ukrainians created themselves.
We shouldn't use resources, which are limited, to double down on this route, but find other ways to provide support, which can generate real effects instead.
