In the morning of September 2, one of the Telegram channels linked to the Belarusian military published a photo of a Mi-24 helicopter of the Belarusian Air Force (tail number 12 white) with the caption: “Active patrolling of the airspace near the State Border.”

A bee with a bow can be seen on the helicopter. Exactly the same bee was used on the arm badge of the 181st combat helicopter base of the Belarusian Armed Forces (military unit 02181, Pruzhany airfield). However, the base was disbanded in 2015.

In other words, the propagandists decided to illustrate “active patrolling” with a helicopter of a unit disbanded nine years ago.

The Mi-24 helicopter (tail number 12 white) crashed on April 25, 2016 near Mazyr. And the photo used in the propagandists’ post was taken back in 2014. So in 2024, the helicopter could only carry out “passive patrolling” of the state border, without taking into the sky.

A number of resources connected with the Belarusian military are involved in a purposeful disinformation campaign. Its aim is to exaggerate the number of troops and the efforts being made by the Belarusian army in response to another “provocation” on the part of Ukraine.

These resources spread information about the fake redeployment of troops to the border with Ukraine, aircraft flights, redeployment of Russian troops to Belarus, etc. And this is another example about patrolling by a non-existent helicopter.

The disinformation campaign is aimed at both the Russian and Ukrainian information field. In the first case the goal of the campaign could be the demonstration of the Lukashenka regime’s “involvement” in the “confrontation” with Ukraine.

In the second case – to maintain tension in the Ukrainian society because of the existing “threat from the north” (also to demonstrate “involvement” in the confrontation with Ukraine).

According to @Hajun_BY, the number of helicopter flights of the Belarusian Air Force in August decreased by one third compared to July. Detailed information about flights can be found on our online map of military activity: map.hajun.info/
