@exexpat19 @shashj: I think kamikaze/bomber FPV/Mavic-type UAVs would be useful for almost any military (they can offer 4 times the range of 81mm mortars, which I believe is still the longest range weapon in a US Marine infantry battalion), but the need is far less given greater US air power/ground fires capabilities.

@exexpat19 @shashj: Absolutely, and everyone acknowledges that the reliance on FPVs is a means of compensating for a lack of artillery and other ammunition. They play a complementary role but certainly don't replace artillery, mortars, and other capabilities.

Izvestia confirms that Russia has formed the 49th Air Assault Brigade as part of the 58th Combined Arms Army, which will be equipped with BMP-3. Air Assault Brigades were previously subordinated to the Ground Forces before all were transferred to the VDV.

@exexpat19: So it looks like they'll have a battalion trained to do helo ops (though they probably won't train for this until later), and otherwise they will be equipped/trained for assaults better than other units in the army.
