@Mike_Taylor1972: Disagree, the vast majority of journalists try to convey accurate information.

@rgoldson @oryxspioenkop: The Oryx team is great, and there are many good people here on twitter.

@overkase: You're conflating actual OSINT experts with non-experts (who may have OSINT in their bio), which is the problem I'm describing.

@USArmyOfficer: The media is very large. There are several former infantry NCO combat veterans who work at the big newspapers and do a very good job.

Many of the most knowledgeable foreign observers of the Russian-Ukrainian war do not have PhDs or significant military experience. They don't have traditional forms of credibility, so they won't get quoted in the media, but they are experts (and often know more than I do).

There is another issue. Our traditional forms of determining expertise for conflicts (e.g. PhDs or military experience) are often a poor indicator of understanding OSINT or recognizing OSINT expertise. It is a different skill set and OSINT literacy is a problem in academia.
Rob Lee (Twitter)

@Inkling61: That isn't a fair generalization. There are many great academics who have done a very good job of providing accurate context for this war and who appreciate OSINT experts.
