@RSS_40 @Capt_Navy: Interesting.

I have seen some reporting, Ukrainian I think, that Monchegorsk MiG-31s had deployed to Crimea but don't think I've seen confirmation. Also can't remember if any of these aircraft are Kinzhal capable.

The CDS mentioned in their daily brief of Oct 9th that Monchegorsk based MiG-31s had deployed to Belbek, Crimea.

Has anyone seen imagery confirming this deployment?

I saw some doing that yesterday. Way too many didn't.

Such events will unfortunately happen again.

I hope many, especially in professional medias, try to learn from yesterday and work on improving reporting in the high risk / high uncertainty information environment.

I don't cover Middle East events in detail, but what happened yesterday warrants a comment.

Jumping to conclusions on something that has potential to become very significant, with real escalation risks, is dangerous.

Something I wrote after the Przewodów incident last year:

Everyone reporting on such events has a responsibility to mitigate the risks, both journalists and other commentators.

Often the best approach is to take a step back and acknowledge that it's a lot we don't know and present that uncertainty to to one's audience.

New article out: "On understanding the naval war"

Prompted by recent tendencies to overestimate the impact of Ukrainian actions risking underestimation of the Black Sea Fleet, giving a wrong understanding of the challenges Ukraine is facing at sea.
