🚀 Epic Games CEO Discusses Future Of Unreal Engine And Digital Asset Market

According to Odaily, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney recently outlined a long-term vision for Unreal Games and Fortnite, which could potentially create the digital asset market that Web3 players have been dreaming of since the advent of the metaverse. In a recent interview with The Verge, Sweeney discussed the upcoming Unreal Engine 6. Unreal Engine is one of the world's most popular game engines, used by developers globally to create numerous AAA games. Unreal Engine 5 was released in 2022, and given that game engines typically have a lifespan of 7 to 10 years, Unreal Engine 6 is unlikely to be seen before 2030. However, according to Sweeney, Epic seems to have set ambitious goals for its flagship software. Sweeney also believes that the next generation of multiplayer game development will undergo a transformation. He stated in the interview, 'Our view is that players are more inclined towards games they can play with friends, and they are willing to spend more money on digital items they believe they will use for a long time.' Additionally, Sweeney thinks the Epic ecosystem needs to expand from a walled garden to a player-facing metaverse. According to Epic Games, the future development path is well-known to the cryptocurrency, blockchain, and Web3 communities: the commodification of digital assets. Epic Games Executive Vice President Saxs Persson mentioned in an interview that the company's vision for future games is to maintain interoperability regardless of the platform players choose. Analysts point out that, on the surface, this will require blockchain technology to ensure trustless verification between systems without compromising company privacy. Epic Games has yet to comment on this matter.

🚀 The Sandbox NEXT Launches Initial Stress Test with Unreal Engine

The Sandbox co-founder and COO Sebastien Borget announced at the EthCC[9] conference that the first round of stress testing for the mobile-native game The Sandbox NEXT began on March 26. According to Foresight News, NEXT has transitioned from using the Unity engine to Unreal Engine to enhance graphics and physics performance for mobile devices.

NEXT is a multiplayer survival game supporting up to 20 players in competitive matches, optimized for mobile with features like auto-aim and shooting mechanics. The initial release includes two maps, 'Desert' and 'City.' Players can transfer their identity, game progress, and NFT assets from The Sandbox's main platform to the mobile version.

Sebastien Borget highlighted that NEXT complements the SANDchain, a layer-2 network based on ZKsync, set to launch in September 2025. The low-cost transactions of the L2 network will facilitate asset minting and market trading for mobile users.
