🚀 U.S. Contractors Charged with Deleting Government Databases

According to PANews, the U.S. Department of Justice has charged two contractor brothers, Muneeb Akhter and Sohaib Akhter, with infiltrating and deleting 96 government databases shortly after their dismissal. The databases contained records related to Department of Homeland Security investigations and Freedom of Information Act requests. The indictment alleges that Sohaib altered permissions and executed the deletions, while Muneeb sought advice from AI on how to erase SQL Server and Windows Server 2012 logs, indicating an attempt to cover their tracks. Previously convicted for breaching the State Department, the brothers discussed removing evidence from their home and reinstalling company laptop systems before their arrest.

🚀 Bitcoin Taproot Adoption Declines Amid Quantum Computing Concerns

According to PANews, on-chain analyst Willy Woo has highlighted a significant decrease in the adoption of Taproot output types in Bitcoin transactions. Data from Glassnode indicates that the proportion of transactions using Taproot has dropped from a peak of 42% in 2024 to approximately 20% currently. Woo noted this as the first instance of the latest output format losing traction among users, suggesting that the primary reason could be Taproot's higher exposure risk to quantum computing. In contrast, older formats like SegWit and Legacy are perceived to be less vulnerable to quantum attacks.

Last month, Willy Woo advised that Bitcoin should guard against the threat of quantum computing and recommended migrating to SegWit addresses as a precautionary measure.

🚀 Vitalik Buterin Expresses Support for Tornado Cash Co-Founder Roman Storm

According to Foresight News, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has expressed his support for Tornado Cash co-founder Roman Storm in a letter. Buterin emphasized his belief in the importance of privacy and his active use of privacy tools, including those developed by Storm. He criticized the assumption that personal privacy can be violated by the public while government, police, and intelligence agencies should have access to all citizens' information for security purposes. Buterin strongly opposes this view, highlighting the frequent hacking of government databases and the risk of information falling into the hands of hostile foreign powers. He shared his personal experience of using Storm's software for transactions, noting that his name was not recorded in corporate databases when purchasing software for personal use. Buterin also pointed out that Storm's applications continue to function normally even years after development ceased.
