🚀 Russian Ex-Investigator Sentenced To 16 Years For Accepting Bitcoin Bribe

According to Odaily, a former chief investigator in Russia, Marat Tambiyev, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison after being found guilty of accepting a bribe of 1,032 BTC, currently valued at $65 million, from a group of hackers. Tambiyev was accused last year of accepting the Bitcoin bribe from individuals associated with the hacker group 'Infraud Organization,' which was under investigation by the Russian Investigative Committee. As part of the agreement, Tambiyev agreed not to confiscate the illegally obtained Bitcoin from the organization. He received half of the illicit assets on April 7, 2022. In 2023, Russian authorities discovered the BTC under a file named 'Pension' on a Mac computer. Authorities concluded that the amount was unreasonable given Tambiyev's official income of 11.7 million rubles ($144,000). Tambiyev has denied the charges, claiming he was framed. He plans to appeal the verdict along with his colleague Kristina Lyakhovenko, who was sentenced to nine years in prison for facing similar charges in the same case.

🚀 South Korean Official Sentenced to 15 Years for Embezzlement

According to PANews, the South Korean Supreme Court has upheld a 15-year prison sentence for Choi, a former financial management team leader at the National Health Insurance Corporation, for embezzling 4.6 billion won. Between April and September 2022, Choi manipulated internal systems to embezzle the funds on 18 occasions before fleeing to the Philippines. He was apprehended in January 2024 at a luxury resort in Manila.

Investigations revealed that aside from 720 million won recovered through civil litigation, Choi invested most of the remaining 3.9 billion won in cryptocurrency futures, resulting in complete losses. The court acknowledged the severity of Choi's crimes but did not support the prosecution's charges of money laundering through cryptocurrency transfers, nor did it approve the request to recover the 3.9 billion won.

Additionally, a colleague, identified as Jo, who allegedly assisted Choi in fleeing and transferring 16.7 million won, received a four-month prison sentence with a one-year probation in a second trial. Jo is currently appealing the verdict.

🚀 Italy's Judicial System Reform Faces Setback in National Referendum

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is poised to narrowly lose a national referendum aimed at overhauling Italy's judicial system.
