🚀 Lloyds Banking Group and Aberdeen Investments Partner with Archax for Digital Asset Collateralization

According to PANews, Lloyds Banking Group Plc and Aberdeen Investments have formed a partnership with the cryptocurrency exchange Archax to enable the use of digital assets as collateral for foreign exchange contracts, aiming to reduce costs in the trading sector.

A statement released on Monday outlines that this collaboration allows Aberdeen Investments and Lloyds Banking Group to leverage blockchain technology for foreign exchange transactions. This technology facilitates the tokenization of real-world assets to be used as collateral. Under the initiative, digital tokens backed by UK government bonds and shares from Aberdeen Investments' money market funds have been issued, transferred, and are held by Archax, based in the UK.

🚀 S&P Global Ratings Downgrades Tether's USDT Stability

According to BlockBeats, S&P Global Ratings has downgraded the stability rating of Tether's USDT stablecoin to the lowest level, citing concerns over its ability to maintain its peg to the U.S. dollar. The agency warned that a decline in Bitcoin prices could lead to under-collateralization risks for the stablecoin.

On Wednesday, analysts at the rating agency lowered USDT's stability rating from 'constrained' to 'weak.' S&P stated that this assessment reflects an increase in exposure to high-risk assets within USDT's reserves over the past year. These assets include Bitcoin, gold, secured loans, and corporate bonds, alongside limited disclosure of information.

🚀 Tether's Resilience Amid Redemption Waves Compared to Traditional Banks

According to PANews, crypto analyst Willy Woo has released a comparative analysis highlighting Tether's (USDT) performance during redemption waves in 2022. Despite experiencing approximately 20–25% redemptions, Tether managed full payouts, outperforming traditional banks such as Silicon Valley Bank, which faced a 25% redemption, and First Republic Bank, which encountered a 57% redemption. Woo emphasized that Tether currently holds 77% of its assets in cash equivalents, with the remainder in gold and Bitcoin, maintaining a total over-collateralization of 3%. Even if volatile assets were to plummet by 30% in extreme market conditions, USDT would still have 95% asset backing.

🚀 Bitcoin Collateralization Expands with Babylon and Aave Partnership

According to PANews, Bitcoin staking project Babylon has partnered with decentralized lending protocol Aave to enable Bitcoin to be used directly as collateral without the need for packaging or centralized custody. Beyond lending services, Babylon plans to extend its vault design into the DeFi insurance sector, allowing Bitcoin to serve as insurance collateral against protocol hacks. If no claims occur, the Bitcoin deposited in the insurance pool will generate returns; however, in the event of a hack, these Bitcoins will provide liquidity for claims.

Babylon is collaborating with Aave to integrate its Trustless Vaults with Aave's hub-and-spoke architecture. Babylon will create a Bitcoin-backed branch within Aave's lending hub, allowing users to deposit Bitcoin on its base chain while borrowing stablecoins and other assets in Aave's market. Testing is scheduled to begin in early 2026, with the product expected to launch around April.

🚀 Liquid Bitcoin's Collateralization Issue Resolved Swiftly

A temporary issue with the Liquid Bitcoin (LBTC) dashboard showed undercollateralization due to outdated node software and incomplete visibility of federated wallets. According to NS3.AI, Adam Back, CEO of Blockstream and a member of the Liquid Network, confirmed that the problem was quickly resolved and that LBTC remains fully backed 1:1 with Bitcoin. The error occurred because old addresses were mistakenly counted, resulting in a temporary display of only 82.4% backing. However, independent dashboards have verified that full collateralization is maintained.

🚀 Insurance-Backed Staking Products Aim to Mitigate Risks for Traditional Finance

CoinDesk columnist Jordan Knecht highlights that some traditional financial institutions perceive staking as fraught with risks such as forfeiture, downtime, operational failures, and unpredictable returns. According to ChainCatcher, these concerns lead them to either hold spot ETH or avoid related assets altogether.

Knecht notes that a new generation of insurance-backed staking products is emerging, using the Composite Ether Staking Rate (CESR) as a benchmark. These products are underwritten by regulated insurance entities, making staked ETH resemble institutional yield products rather than crypto experiments. CESR, developed by CoinDesk Indices and CoinFund, serves as a daily standardized benchmark rate to assess the average annualized yield of ETH validators.

Chainproof, in collaboration with IMA Financial Group, offers policies that compensate for returns falling below CESR and provide coverage in case of forfeiture. These arrangements also support strategies involving collateralization, rebalancing, and structured designs based on staked ETH.
