πŸš€ Zilliqa Faces Block Production Issues Due To System Bugs

According to Cointelegraph, critical system bugs negatively impacted the Zilliqa mainnet’s block production on Sept. 27 and 29, forcing the blockchain network to halt transactions temporarily while the issue is fixed.

On Sept. 29, Zilliqa proactively reported a system bug that suddenly disabled the network from creating new blocks. At the same time, several crypto investors reported difficulties accessing their funds on ZilPay, a browser wallet for the Zilliqa blockchain.

Community members raised concerns about the Zil chain, considering it had recovered from a similar event two days ago on Sept. 27. However, the previous bug caused block production to slow down drastically, unlike the current bug, which completely stalled block production.

In response to concerns raised by users on X, Zilliqa stated: β€œNetwork was operational and working fine until network stopped producing blocks and stalled due to another bug last night. The Zilliqa team is looking into the issue, debugging and attempting to restore the network. Please stay tuned for further updates.”

Zilliqa also clarified that the persistent network issues are unrelated to its recent Zilliqa 2.0 upgrade, which focuses on speed and cross-chain compatibility.

The Sept. 27 bug, which slowed down block production, was rectified on the same day. At the time, Zilliqa confirmed that β€œthe network is now fully operational.” However, the Sept. 29 bug is taking longer to resolve.

The Zilliqa network has not yet resumed normal operations at the time of publication. However, the blockchain has been restored for validators and works for a β€œpermanent fixβ€œ is underway, according to an X post from the Zilliqa team.

πŸš€ Sui Network Resumes Block Production After Outage

According to Foresight News, recent data from Suiscan indicates that the Sui network has successfully resumed block production. This development follows a period of downtime that affected the network's operations. The official confirmation of the network's recovery was also made by Suiet, the Sui ecosystem wallet, on platform X.

The restoration of block production marks a significant step in stabilizing the Sui network, which had experienced disruptions impacting its functionality. The network's recovery is crucial for maintaining the integrity and reliability of transactions and operations within the Sui ecosystem. Users and stakeholders had been awaiting updates on the network's status, and the confirmation from Suiet provides reassurance of the network's operational stability.

The Sui network's ability to resume block production is a positive sign for its users and the broader blockchain community. It underscores the resilience and adaptability of the network's infrastructure in addressing and overcoming technical challenges. As the network continues to stabilize, stakeholders will be monitoring its performance closely to ensure sustained reliability and efficiency in its operations.

πŸš€ Solana Proposal Enhances Block Production Efficiency

According to Foresight News, Solana's improvement proposal SIMD-0337 introduces a block tagging feature to implement a rapid leader transition mechanism in Alpenglow. This technology allows leaders to begin block production based on the expected parent block without waiting for confirmation, reducing block production time by approximately 120 milliseconds and improving inter-block reliable latency (IBRL) by about 7.5%. The new mechanism is achieved through two tags, BlockHeader and UpdateParent, ensuring security against malicious actions while maximizing network throughput. Detailed technical information has been published on GitHub.

πŸš€ BNB Chain Enhances Network with Fermi Upgrade

According to ChainCatcher, BNB Chain has implemented its third major upgrade, named Fermi after the Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi. This upgrade aims to increase block production speed by 40% and reduce finality confirmation time to approximately one second. These improvements are expected to make transaction confirmations more predictable and reduce slippage risk in highly volatile markets.

The upgrade also includes technical enhancements such as optimizing validator coordination mechanisms, improving blockchain data access efficiency, and enhancing transaction execution efficiency. Previously, BNB Chain completed two upgrades named after mathematician Pascal and physicist Maxwell.

πŸš€ FoundryUSA Reduces Hashrate Amid Severe Winter Storm in the U.S.

FoundryUSA, a leading digital asset advisory firm with the largest Bitcoin mining pool globally, has significantly reduced its hashrate by approximately 60% since Friday due to a severe winter storm affecting vast areas of the United States. According to Cointelegraph, the Bitcoin hashrate on FoundryUSA alone has decreased by nearly 200 exahashes per second (EH/s), or 60%, since Friday, leading to a temporary slowdown in block production to 12 minutes.

Despite the reduction, FoundryUSA still maintains around 198 EH/s of hashing power, representing about 23% of the global mining pool hashrate, as indicated by data from Hashrate Index. The curtailment has also impacted other mining pools serving U.S. users, including Luxor, as reported by TheMinerMag on Saturday. The winter storm, named Fern, is sweeping across the U.S., prompting miners to adjust their energy consumption to alleviate stress on grid infrastructure.

Bitcoin miners play a crucial role in balancing the energy grid during emergencies. They act as a controllable load resource for public electrical grid infrastructure, modifying their energy requirements to stabilize the grid during periods of high demand and low consumer usage. Excess energy within an electrical grid system can damage infrastructure during low demand periods and must be safely dissipated to prevent harm to grid components and individuals. Bitcoin miners can activate their machines when demand is low, diverting potentially harmful levels of power from the grid. Conversely, they can deactivate their machines during peak demand to ensure energy availability for consumers.

The current winter storm in the U.S. is characterized by a mix of snow, ice, and freezing rain across the Southeastern U.S., the Northeast, and parts of the Midwest, according to radar forecasts from The Weather Channel. The storm is expected to stretch approximately 1,800 miles, causing widespread power outages affecting over 1 million residents, as reported by The Weather Channel.
