Sui has introduced the Tidehunter database, designed to optimize modern SSD performance and minimize competition in the write path. According to Foresight News, all write operations are processed through a high-speed, lock-free write-ahead log (WAL), capable of handling millions of operations per second. Tidehunter utilizes writable memory-mapped files instead of system calls for each write. Persistence is managed asynchronously by background service threads, which handle file growth management and periodic synchronization.
