for everyone who still thinks that GenAI is a good thing: elon musk added an "edit" feature to all of the pictures, videos and gifs available on the platfrom X. this feature specifically targets independent artists, cosplayers, anyone whose content can be made inappropriate, etc. i dont want to go into heavy detail, explaining why it's bad, here's the link that further explains this. i also have posts from russian artists that explain stuff directly on x.

so if youre an artist, time to quickly delete your account and delete your art from there because 1) it will be stolen, 2) you have no way to turn off this feature yet, 3) your images can possibly become nsfw (and essentially deepfakes)

merry christmas. i wish elon musk to one time suffer as much as the rest of the world that he sets on fire.

I just wanna add that you can't trust anyone with your data and social media profiles but yourself. Make a blog or join a federated / distributed platform. If you need a social media profile to promote your art, remember that Mastodon and Bsky are bridged. I'm gonna soon abandon Telegram too and I beg you to please start using the alternatives out there. Digital resistance is as important as any other form of resistance, because control starts from the flows of information, how you communicate and how you access media, and every piece of data you give up to them is yet another brick in the wall

So, Meta is using Instagram DMs to train their Meta AI

I've seen posts about an opt-out with a link described as "right to say no to this policy", but if you check the link it's NOT an opt-out

All you can do is send a request ONLY IF you have proof that Meta AI gives out your personal info as a reproducible response to a prompt

TL;DR Instagram is using your DMs to train their LLM and there is no opt-out

"But the privacy policy update of Dec 16th doesn't mention DMs and a Meta spokeperson said they don't use your DMs"

Well that's because they've been using DMs since long before this last policy update, and if you trust a Meta spokeperson then idk what to tell you

There's a research study out there called AYAGDOS, lead, amongst others, by Lisa Littman, who wants to study rapid onset gender dysphoria via social failure, and is trying to make data fit that fucked up theory by purposefully misrepresenting the people who partake in her studies.

Lisa is also on the advisory board on Genspect, a fully serious anti-trans org that operates within the EU and works closely with the medical systems wherever they're let in to push anti trans science.

They're actively recruiting for their study on sites like Reddit, targeting demographics who frequent trans subs.
πŸ’”46🀬21❀5
whatever you do, do not participate in trans social studies without doing your research on the people leading the study, they're incredibly good at covering their tracks and will misuse your input to further a false narrative against trans people.
If you want to see just how bad it is, look up Genspect, you'll find ties to Turning Point, trans social rejection propaganda, gender ideology broadly being painted as deliberately inciting violence, detrans agenda pushing

In corso Regina ormai erano in pochi.

so now you can summarize long messages with cryptominers-fueled AI if you have telegram premium. i guess it's time to choose a federated microblogging platform. any suggestions are welcome

Hello lesbeans ✨

As you probably noticed in the last couple months I've been posting less and less. Due to the downward spiral of centralised platforms (Twitter, Reddit, Discord, Telegram) I have been constantly looking for alternatives that are outside of the control of centralised entities without being impossible to use for the average user

Today I rejoined XMPP, a messaging protocol that has existed for almost 30 years and is being constantly improved upon. All I had to do was download the app Monocles Chat and register on one of the available free public servers (xmpp.earth): no weird shit, nothing harder than setting up a gmail account

I quickly discovered a welcome surprise: XMPP supports microblogging via PubSub (only on some clients tho), thus becoming what I think is the first really promising alternative to Telegram, with usernames, stories, both private and public chatrooms, and a channel-like feed, all while having better security (e2ee) and being decentralised/federated

Monocles Chat is available on F-Droid (where it's FREE, recommended) and on the PlayStore. Most servers, like xmpp.earth, offer a browser interface too

I invite you to try it, and if you wanna hit me up there I'm celeste@xmpp.earth

What XMPP server should I pick?

If you can, I recommend self-hosting.
If you can't, you can pick mov.im or something from this list if you want a native integration with the social Movim functionalities. This list has also a lot of information on the servers and anything between A and B tier would be a good pick (I personally have a good history with disroot.org and I'm currently using xmpp.earth)

What is Movim?

Movim is an integration of social network functionality on your XMPP account, centered around microblogging and communities. You don't have to make a new account or anything, and all standard XMPP functions are integrated in the movim interface. It works as a web-app so you can use it from any browser on any device

A couple thoughts after trying XMPP for an afternoon (I know it's not a lot)

The protocol itself is great. It offers a lot of flexibility, supporting private e2ee chats (with OMEMO or OpenPGP), both private and public chatrooms, microblogging, stories, reactions, stickers, gifs, all easily customizable through extentions

Chatting

It works just fine
- on the most popular clients OMEMO (e2ee) is enabled by default
- The interface on Android apps is not the prettiest but it's clean and not confusing, and desktop applications are even better
- The settings are very transparent and easy to understand
- Public chatrooms are also very easy to find, and there are dedicated groupchats for supporting users with any problem. Everybody I've spoken to was really kind and answered every question and doubt I had
- The microblogging feeds only work among users with clients that support the feature (e.g. Conversations does not). But it's extremely intuitive and even if the feed UI on Monocles frankly sucks, it's working and easy to use. The same goes for Stories

Movim

It's amazing to see that people have developed an advanced social network from scratch that works so well and is fully open source and free to use.
However, movim does not have any proper client and must be used either on a browser or as a Progressive Web App in order to use all the social functionalities as intended. This in turn may cause some issues if you rely heavily on e2ee chats and a hardened browsers.

So what?

XMPP is really promising and both Movim and the recent implementation of Pubsub on Monocles are pushing for an increase of people using the protocol for more than just messaging.

However, I wouldn't recommend using the same account for private chats and social network stuff

β€’ If all you need is a secure messaging app you can use with your pusher as well as your mom, or you are a journalist or a political dissident, Signal/Molly is still probably the best option.

β€’ If you want a simple replacement for Telegram, either Movim or a normal XMPP client are good enough. They might be less intuitive and less feature rich than Telegram, but they work.

β€’ If you want a replacement for Discord, your best bet is either waititing for the release of spaces on Movim or move to Matrix (Fluffy chat is a good client imo).

β€’ If you want to just focus on the blogging part, Mastodon is probably what you're looking for.
