Struggle of Gaurav Chauhan...
GATE preparation with private job and finally IOCL...

After completing my B.Tech in 2016, got placed in a private sector with a handsome salary, 5 days working and was very happy with it. During my job I realised that I was working for around 10 hrs a day, sometimes even on Saturday & it will continue throughout life but it was not feasible for me to quit the job and prepare.
So I decided to join made easy in weekend batch in January 2017, in order to prepare for GATE-2018.
Initially for few days everything went well, but after that I realised that I was working 24*7, 5 days in the job and 2 days in the made easy with very less time for revision. But I was not having the option to leave the job and I didn’t want to leave classes. So I decided to continue in the way things were going.
My day used to start with books and end with books. I was spending more than 9 hrs in the office + 8 hrs of sleep + 4 hrs in travelling & other stuff and thus getting not even 3 hrs for self-study.
I was conserving each and every second in the day and sometime even cutting down the sleeping hrs to study at least 4-5 hrs in a day. But as the syllabus was getting completed, the work load was also getting increased in the office, with working Saturdays. As it was difficult to take leave on every Saturday, the only option was to miss some of the classes of the Made Easy.
Finally I appeared for Gate 2018 and secured an AIR-7314, which was expected by the kind of preparation I had.
From the next day I started self-preparing again for Gate-2019, starting by the syllabus which was remaining from the previous year. Things were going good but in October- November I lost the momentum due to increased work load in the office and I realized that GATE is not my cup of tea and decided to leave the preparation.
But as I already filled the application form, so I appeared for the exam and secured AIR-1472. That year I had failed in AAI, DMRC, BHEL ,BARC and others. After these failures I started thinking negatively.
Now I was not preparing any more, I always used to be in past thinking how I wasted my 3 years, my mind used to be surrounded by negative thoughts, about the people who told me that you can never clear this exam along with job especially when you have a hectic schedule. Many also suggested me not to go for next attempt as I already wasted my three years, but despite this I filled GATE 2020 form and started my preparation from that day. I was aware that this is going to be my last attempt, so I gave my best. This time I focussed more on solving question, giving test series & analysing it, which I missed in my previous attempt. Despite my job I was studying around 6 hrs a day. I was having sleepless night and used to wake up at 4 AM.
My GATE exam was on 1st February (Saturday) at 9 AM and on the Friday at 9 PM I was in the office completing my job assignment. But I gave my last attempt with full confidence.
When the result was out I secured AIR-134. At the first look I was not able to believe so I logged out and checked again
Finally I have received call from IOCL.
At last I would like say that Energy can neither be created nor be destroyed rather it will be converted from one form to another form. Whatever efforts we are investing today will definitely bring the results tomorrow. We just have to cross our comfort zone. Believe me the world is different when you cross your comfort zone. Don’t stop, keep moving…
