Here are some of the subgenres based on story type.

🧒Humans: The most common race in any given setting. Humans are typically a much younger race than the others.

🧝‍♀️Elves: Long-lived, pointy-eared and magical. Elves are usually portrayed as a far older civilization than humans, and will likely look down on the latter as unsophisticated children. They are usually either a Vestigial Empire or a truly Dying Race.

🧙‍♂️Dwarves: Short, stout, bearded and fond of singing, drinking, mining and fighting. Dwarves — or "dwarfs" — are another group often portrayed as ancient and much more advanced than humanity, but diminishing and declining.

Why is fantasy so popular?

✨Fantasy is relatively easy to read.
Fantasy usually involves mystical creatures, a more medieval setting, and at the very least, magic. The sheer volume of types of magic in the Fantasy genre never fails to impress me. I’ve read of metallurgical magic, color-based magic, and plain old awesome Harry Potter magic.

✨Fantasy tends to be more character driven.
You look at fantasy novels and certainly the plot is important but we fall in love with the characters. They tend to be more fleshed out and the books are huge so the story has a lot of time to spend on dialogue.

✨Good Fantasy novels don’t stereotype younger people.
Teens are often portrayed as whiny, self-centered, angsty. There are thousands of teenagers out there that are witty, intelligent, quiet, adventurous, empathetic. In fantasy those are usually the main characters.

✨Fantasy series have lots and lots of books.
Almost every major fantasy novel in the last 20 years was part of a trilogy or more. So we get to read about the same characters again and again in the same world.

There are many elements in fantasy that are missing in fairy tales and here a few:

✨Fantasy does not always have a straightforward moral message

✨Fantasy is often concerned with an epic or saga not a single contained story

✨Fantasy settings do not usually take place on a magical version of Earth, but on fantastical realms outside of it (think Middle-Earth, Narnia, or Earth-Sea)

✨Fantasy stories often have deep histories, genealogies, and/or cultures attributed to characters, creatures, and peoples within their worlds

✨Fantasy is often concerned with conflicts and stories that impact the whole of a civilization or world within the story rather than localized events (i.e. Cinderella’s conflict with her stepmother and the fate of her status versus Frodo’s conflict with Sauron and the fate of Middle-Earth)

There are more that can be added, but I think you get the gist. Fairy tales should be identified as short, concise stories with straightforward outcomes whereas fantasy stories are longer, more complex, and not always clear-cut.

Alive, Live, Dead & Died – Confusing English Words.

🦇Alive is an adjective and means “living” or “not dead”. We usually use alive after the be verb, but not before a noun. So we can say:
The lobsters in that tank are alive.
but we can’t say
The alive lobsters.

🕷On the other hand live is an adjective that comes before a noun. Live also means “living” or “not dead”.
For example:
We bought live lobsters at the fish market.

☠Dead is an adjective which means “not alive.” Dead can come after the be verb or before a noun.
I pulled out all of the dead weeds from my garden.

👻Died is the past form of the verb die, which means “to stop living.”

Words like bored, excited, interested, amazed, disappointed, all describe how a person feels about something. All of those words have an -ED at the end.
People are -ED! Only people can be -ED.

On the other hand, words like boring, exciting, amazing and disappointing describe the reason a person has certain feeling about something. All of those words end in -ING.
Things (and sometimes people) are -ING!

Here are some examples:
✅The rollercoaster is exciting, so I'm excited.
✅This lesson is interesting, so I'm very interested in it, aren't you?

And here are some sentences for you. Can you correct all the mistakes?
