Researchers from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York wrote an article in which they emphasized that bitcoin is one of the classes of fiat money. That is, in fact, the largest digital currency is not a new financial instrument.
The coin is used as a regular means of payment. Researchers divided the money into three types - fiat currencies and currencies that have collateral in the form of real assets and in the form of rights.
The article says that the real value of any money is determined by the volume of goods and services that their holder can purchase. In this regard, bitcoin acts as an ordinary payment tool, like other money.
