MetaMask non-custodial wallet can acquire its own token. This became known in the framework of the community-call of the project developers on the crowdcast. Despite the fact that there are no specifics on the release of the cryptocurrency, MetaMask expressed interest in such a product.
🔺As MetaMask Senior Engineer Eric Marks said, the developers fully approve of the idea of managing the project through a token. However, Marks did not clarify any details on the token. He added that the developers are interested in a token that has real uses.
☝️However, if a token appears, then it is unlikely to be distributed according to the initial coin offering (ICO) model. According to Marx, such token distribution methods are often subject to pump & dump schemes.

Earlier, the MetaMask developers sounded the alarm because of the scammers who hide behind the technical support of the project and steal the private keys of users. Twitter turned out to be a key platform for attacks, where in just a day the bot could spread more than a dozen phishing links.
However, this is far from the only scheme of attackers. Previously, cyber attackers were able to develop an exact copy of the MetaMask extension. That being said, the fake copy mimics not only the extension itself, but also the website of the original wallet (fake copy: installmetamask.com).
☝️Moreover, as CipherTrace analysts found out, at least one cryptocurrency project encouraged users to send funds through a copy of the wallet. The company has already contacted the MetaMask developers with a request to help block the fraudulent clone.
