Пока криптовалютное сообщество продолжает обсуждать грядущий запуск второй версии протокола Ethereum и хард форк Istanbul, который должен состояться в основной сети 4 декабря, разработчики уже строят планы на следующее обновление под названием «Berlin».
Менеджер по продукту Ethereum-стартапа PegaSys Тим Бейко в своём Twitter сообщил: «Учитывая тот факт, что в июле наступит новый ледниковый период, если мы хотим принять новую модель и провести форк в третью среду, тогда нам, вероятно, следует осуществить обновление основной сети не позднее конца июня».
Бейко также приводит выдержки из обсуждений разработчиков, касающихся технических особенностей отдельных предложений по улучшению Ethereum (EIP).
✔️По его словам, разработчики могут отказаться от используемой сейчас модели «предварительно одобренных» EIP для конкретного обновления в пользу «благодатных» EIP, которые будут рассматриваться для включения во все обновления в будущем. В частности, к «благодатным» обновлениям с всеобщего согласия было предложено отнести механизм ProgPow, который должен сделать майнинг Ethereum на GPU более конкурентоспособным перед угрозой распространения специализированного ASIC-оборудования.

While the cryptocurrency community continues to discuss the upcoming launch of the second version of the Ethereum protocol and the Istanbul hard fork, which is due to take place on the main network on December 4, developers are already making plans for the next update called “Berlin”.
Tim Beiko, product manager for PegaSys Ethereum startup, said on his Twitter: “Given the fact that a new ice age will come in July, if we want to adopt a new model and fork on the third Wednesday, then we probably should update the main network no later than the end of June. "
Beiko also provides excerpts from developer discussions regarding the technical features of individual Ethereum Improvement Suggestions (EIP).
✔️According to him, developers can abandon the currently used model of “pre-approved” EIP for a specific update in favor of the “beneficent” EIP, which will be considered for inclusion in all updates in the future. In particular, it was suggested that the ProgPow mechanism, which should make Ethereum mining on the GPU more competitive against the threat of the proliferation of specialized ASIC equipment, be considered a “beneficial” update with universal consent.
🔺 “Obviously, there is still a lot of work to be done to be adopted (mainly non-technical / political),” Beiko explains.
❗️ Previously, it became known that the developers intend to increase the block sizes in Ethereum 8 by 8 times in order to compensate for the decrease in the number of shards at the initial start of the network.
