Operator of the world's largest social network Facebook Inc. held talks with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). The main theme was a steyblkoin called GlobalCoin, reports the Financial Times, citing the head of department, Christopher Giancarlo.
✅So, it is alleged that this is only an early stage of discussions, within which the CFTC intends to find out whether GlobalCoin falls under its regulation. The agency expressed a desire to better understand the nature of steyblkoina, says the publication.
Earlier, the media reported that Facebook is already in talks with representatives of the US Treasury Department and Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, as well as with Western Union, Visa and Mastercard regarding the initiative, code-named Libra.

✅According to the document presented on the SEC official website, the portfolio fund will invest in bitcoin futures, which are calculated in fiat currency and traded on exchanges registered by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Right now, only one exchange trades with such contracts; it is the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). At the same time, the fund will not invest directly in bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
The fund will begin to acquire so many bitcoin futures so that the total amount of bitcoins in collateral fully coincides with the net assets of the fund.
