πŸ…Ύ Real Conditional

πŸ›‘ We use real conditionals to talk about results based on real events and situations. Real conditionals are divided into zero and first conditionals.

πŸ”΄ When we know the same result always happens after an event or situation, we use a zero conditional.

πŸ›‘ FORM πŸ›‘

πŸ”΅ Conditional sentences have two parts:
πŸ›‘ the ifβ€” clause
πŸ›‘ the result clause

πŸ”΅ We can put the #if_clause first, or we can put the #result_clause first. We do not need a #comma when the result clause comes first.

πŸ”΅ Office hours are between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm, Monday to Thursday if you want to see us.

πŸ…Ύ We can use present continuous and past tenses with real conditional sentences, as well as modal verbs like #can and #passive_forms.

πŸ”΄ If you are having problems with your accommodation, we can try to help you.

πŸ”΅ Jane stopped studying if she felt tired and took a break instead.

πŸ…Ύ With zero conditionals, #if can be replaced by #when to make the result of the condition more certain.

πŸ”΅ When you want to call us, telephone 0800 835222.

πŸ…Ύ We use #then to focus on the result of the condition.

πŸ”΄ If the International Office is closed for lunch, then leave a note at main reception.

πŸ…Ύ Because real conditionals refer to something that is generally true, we can use adverbs of frequency like #always and #never with them.

πŸ”΅ If we are not here, you can always leave a message.

πŸ›‘ Negative Form πŸ›‘

πŸ…Ύ We can make the #if_clause or the #result_clause or #both clauses #negative, but this changes the meaning of the sentence.

πŸ”΅ If you don’t need help, don’t call us!

πŸ”΄ If you don’t know how to use the University computer system, we teach you how to do it.

πŸ›‘ Question Form πŸ›‘

πŸ”΅ Yes / No questions πŸ”΅

πŸ”΄ Do students go to their tutors if they need advice?

πŸ”΅ Wh- questions πŸ”΅

πŸ”΄ Where do you go if you want some advice?
