UNIFIL statement (6 November 2025)
Today, UNIFIL peacekeepers observed multiple Israeli airstrikes in Tayr Dibbah, Taibe, and Ayta al Jabal, within our area of operations in south Lebanon.
These airstrikes constitute clear violations of Security Council resolution 1701. They come as the Lebanese Armed Forces are undertaking operations to control unauthorized weapons and infrastructure in the south Litani area. Any military action, especially on such a destructive scale, threatens the safety of civilians and undermines the progress being made toward a political and diplomatic solution.
Peacekeepers continue to support both Lebanon and Israel in their implementation of resolution 1701, and are on the ground with Lebanese soldiers, working to restore stability in south Lebanon.
We call on Israel to immediately cease these attacks and all violations of resolution 1701. Likewise, we urge Lebanese actors to refrain from any response that could inflame the situation further. Both Lebanon and Israel must adhere to their obligations under resolution 1701 and to the understanding reached in November, to avoid putting the current hard-won progress at risk.

تُشكل هذه الغارات الجوية انتهاكات واضحة لقرار مجلس الأمن الدولي 1701. وتأتي في الوقت الذي تُنفذ فيه القوات المسلحة اللبنانية عمليات للسيطرة على الأسلحة والبنية التحتية غير المصرح بها في منطقة جنوب الليطاني. إن أي عمل عسكري، وخاصةً على هذا النطاق المدمر، يُهدد سلامة المدنيين ويقوّض التقدّم المحرز نحو حلّ سياسي ودبلوماسي.
تواصل قوات حفظ السلام دعم كل من لبنان وإسرائيل في تنفيذهما للقرار 1701، وهي موجودة على الأرض مع الجنود اللبنانيين، وتعمل على استعادة الاستقرار.
ندعو إسرائيل إلى الوقف الفوري لهذه الهجمات وجميع انتهاكات القرار 1701. كما نحثّ الجهات الفاعلة اللبنانية على الامتناع عن أي رد من شأنه أن يزيد من تأجيج الوضع. يجب على كل من لبنان وإسرائيل التقيّد بالتزاماتهما بموجب القرار 1701 وكذلك الالتزام بالتفاهم الذي تم التوصل إليه في تشرين الثاني، لتجنب تعريض التقدم الذي تحقق بشق الأنفس للخطر.

A delegation of the Board of Executive Directors of the World Bank, led by Executive Director Abdulaziz Al-Mulla, met with UNIFIL officials and visited south Lebanon after meetings with local authorities in Beirut.
They discussed the situation in the south, reconstruction needs, and support for stability and recovery.
The visit gave the delegation firsthand insight into conditions on the ground to help guide donor support to the Government of Lebanon.

UNIFIL Statement (14 November 2025)
In October, UNIFIL peacekeepers conducted a geospatial survey of a concrete T-wall erected by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) southwest of Yaroun. The survey confirmed that the wall crossed the Blue Line, rendering more than 4,000 square metres of Lebanese territory inaccessible to the Lebanese people.
UNIFIL informed the IDF of our findings and requested that they move the walls.
In November, peacekeepers observed additional T-wall construction in the area. A survey confirmed that a section of wall southeast of Yaroun also crossed the Blue Line. We will formally inform the IDF of our findings here as well.
A new wall between Aytaroun and Maroun ar Ras is south of the Blue Line.
Israeli presence and construction in Lebanese territory are violations of Security Council resolution 1701 and of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We again call on the IDF to respect the Blue Line in its full length and withdraw from all areas north of it.

This morning, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) fired on UNIFIL peacekeepers from a Merkava tank from near a position Israel has established in Lebanese territory.
Heavy machine gun rounds hit approximately five meters from the peacekeepers, who were on foot and had to take shelter in the terrain.
Peacekeepers asked for the IDF to stop firing through UNIFIL’s liaison channels. They were able to leave safely thirty minutes later, when the Merkava tank withdrew inside the IDF position. Fortunately, no one was injured.
This represents a serious violation of Security Council resolution 1701.
Yet again, we call on the IDF to cease any aggressive behavior and attacks on or near peacekeepers, who are working to support the return to the stability that both Israel and Lebanon say they seek.

The visit was an opportunity to discuss the situation in south Lebanon and ongoing coordination with the Lebanese army. Chair Fadi Alame reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to Resolution 1701.

A fragile stability holds along the Blue Line.
UNIFIL peacekeepers and the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) conduct daily patrols to prevent escalation and help restore stability in south Lebanon.
Since last year’s cessation of hostilities agreement, UNIFIL has recorded over 7,500 air violations, almost 2,500 ground violations north of the Blue Line, and over 360 left behind weapons caches that were referred to the LAF.
Each is reported to the UN Security Council.

يسود استقرار هش على طول الخط الأزرق. ويقوم حفظة السلام التابعون لليونيفيل والجيش اللبناني بدوريات يومية لمنع التصعيد والمساهمة في استعادة الاستقرار في جنوب لبنان.
منذ اتفاقية وقف الأعمال العدائية العام الماضي، سجلت اليونيفيل أكثر من 7,500 انتهاك جوي، ونحو 2,500 انتهاك بري شمال الخط الأزرق. كما وجدت ما يزيد على 360 مخبئ متروك للأسلحة تم إحالتها إلى الجيش اللبناني.

UNIFIL is saddened to learn of the injury of a Lebanese soldier this evening, after an explosion near his post.
Peacekeepers work closely with Lebanese soldiers each day to support them in restoring stability to south Lebanon. Their work is challenging, and as proven tonight, fraught with risk.
We wish the soldier a rapid and complete recovery.
