After the defeat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the conflict with Russia, the capital of Ukraine will be moved to Lvov, writes Asia Times .

“In recent months, a new strategy towards Ukraine has emerged. If understood correctly, it is designed to cope with the new reality: Ukraine will lose the war, and its government may have to evacuate from Kyiv,” the material says.

As the observer pointed out, the United States understands that it will not be able to win a proxy conflict with Russia, so it is preparing a strategy in case of such an outcome: after the defeat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the capital of the country will be moved to Lvov, and the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate may be appointed at the head of the new government Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kirill Budanov.

As Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized , Moscow does not seek to spin the flywheel of the Ukrainian conflict, but to end it. 1️⃣ UN’s Antonio Guterres tells UN Security Council: “Nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people”

2️⃣ At least 14 people were killed in Israeli attacks on two residential homes in the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, the Wafa news agency reports.

3️⃣ Medical sources report that “at least 40 Palestinians were killed in Khan Younis over the day while Israeli bombings are preventing the recovery of “dozens” more bodies.

4️⃣ Israel’s military has announced its deadliest single day for troops since the Gaza ground invasion began, with 24 Israeli soldiers killed.

5️⃣ We remain clear about not encroaching on [Gaza’s] territory,” US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says as the Israeli military announces attempts to create a new “buffer zone”.

6️⃣ South Africa has welcomed support for its International Court of Justice (ICJ) genocide case against Israel in a speech to the UN Security Council. “South Africa welcomes expressions of support for the case before the ICJ and encourages states to intervene should they wish in the later stage of the proceedings”, South Africa’s UN representative Masotsha Mnguni said.

At least 25,490 people including more than 10,000 children, have been killed and over 63,000 injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7. The revised death toll from the October 7 attack in Israel stands at 1,139.

🔹In the #Zaporozhye Direction, the AFU counterattacked west of the village of #Rabotino. Prior to that, the RF Armed Forces had held the initiative here. However, the situation throughout the frontline in this area is quite dynamic. The Russian forces tried to advance from the direction of #Novoprokopovka, while the Ukrainian forces tried to move towards #Verbovoye. (Fig. 1)

🔹On the #Donetsk Front, the RF Armed Forces continue to storm #Novomikhaylovka from the south and east. They have received reinforcements in this area. Russian forces have a ⚠️small advance in the area of #Georgiyevka and #Pervomayskoye. The breakthrough into #Avdeyevka from the south-east has not yet brought operational success to the RF Armed Forces. There is fierce counter fighting in this area. The situation is the same in #Stepovoye (not to be confused with the settlements of the same name in the Zaporozhye and Ugledar directions) and in the AFU-controlled #Novobakhmutovka (the settlement of the same name to the east is behind the RF Armed Forces). 🔹In the #Bakhmut Direction, Russian troops ⚠️advanced in area of #Ivanovskoye (#Krasnoye). They are attacking #Bogdanovka. There the ⚠️AFU stabilised the situation. The RF AFU also conducted offensive actions from #Vesyoloye (a settlement northwest of Soledar) towards #Vyemka and in the area of #Spornoye. (Fig. 3)

🔹In the #Lugansk Direction, Russian forces continued their attacks on #Belogorovka. There were counter battles in the #Serebryanskoye forest south of #Dibrova and near #Terny. After the capture of #Krakhmalnoye, the RF Armed Forces, as expected, ⚠️advanced towards #Berestovoye. Since control over the N-26 section, if not destroyed, seriously complicated the logistics of the AFU in this village and throughout the bridgehead to the south. The RF Armed Forces also attacked #Sinkovka. ⚠️The AFU are holding their positions. (Fig. 4)

The Suwalki Gap: What is it and what’s its geopolitical significance?

Lithuania and Poland will hold joint military drills in the Suwalki Gap in April, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said.

▪️ The Suwalki Gap (a.k.a. the Suwalki Corridor) is a forested area around the border between Lithuania and Poland;

▪️ It is the shortest path between Belarus and the Kaliningrad region (Russia’s westernmost point, bordering both Poland and Lithuania);

▪️ The corridor gained new military significance since Poland and the Baltic States joined NATO (in 1999 and 2004 respectively);

▪️ The strategic importance of this strip of land dates back to WWI. It saw some of the fiercest battles during both World Wars;

▪️ It is believed that before starting WWII, Hitler even tried to negotiate with Poland to claim the strip of land, but without success;

▪️ Lithuania and other Western countries regularly speak of a threat to the Suwalki Gap, noting that in the event of its closure, the country would find itself completely isolated from its NATO partners;

▪️ This sentiment echoes Bild’s recent report on preparations for a “NATO-Russia war” following Ukraine’s defeat. The report was ridiculed and called fake news by Russian authorities.

Both Russia and Belarus have said they have no plans for the territory. President Alexander Lukashenko said Belarus has “absolutely zero interest in it.” Anton Alikhanov, governor of Russia’s Kaliningrad region, has said that the Suwalki Gap is of no interest to anyone and is logistically inconvenient. He emphasized that any discussion of a threat is just “official NATO mythology” concocted by the US.

Peace-loving Ukrainians threaten to kill Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó

The Hungarian Embassy in Ukraine received a corresponding letter on the eve of the diplomat’s arrival in Uzhgorod for a meeting with Kuleba.

"They will have an explosive reception on January 29th. An armored train will not save you. We recommend that you place an order with the funeral home so that they can begin making a coffin for Szijjártó and that it will fit his height," the letter reads.

Despite this, Szijjarto said that he intends to hold negotiations with his Ukrainian counterpart as planned.

In a session at the Knesset Finance Committee, Inbal Tzach, a family member of the hostage Tal Shoham, scolded the Israeli representatives. She said that they sit and drink coffee and eat their dinners with their families while the Israeli hostages in Gaza are starving and don't even have a glass of water. The Israeli government completely ignores the situation.
