⚡️🇷🇺🇺🇦⚔️ Frontline #Summary for the Morning of 16 December 2023; pub. 10:01⚡️
🔹In the #Zaporozhye direction, the RF Armed Forces continued pressure on the Ukrainian troops in the village of #Rabotino from the west and south. In turn, the AFU tried to advance in the #Verbovoye area.⚠️ There were no significant changes in the frontline at any of the sites. (Fig. 1)
🔹On the #Donetsk Front, Russian forces continue their offensive on #Novomikhaylovka from the south and southeast with the aim of levelling the frontline and cutting off the AFU's ledge. Also, after the practical capture of #Maryinka, they are concentrating their efforts on the assault on #Pobeda, where is a powerful Ukrainian fortification.⚠️ The AFU are holding their positions. ⚠️Russian troops managed to advance at #Nevelskoye. They also attacked in the industrial zone southeast of #Avdeyevka, in the area of #Stepovoye (not to be confused with the settlements of the same name in the Zaporozhye and Ugledar directions) and near #Berdychi.⚠️ There is a slight advance in the last of these areas. 🔹In the #Bakhmut Direction, the RF Armed Forces continued their offensive on the heights northwest of #Kleshcheyevka, on the side of #Khromovo and near #Bogdanovka.⚠️ Ukrainian troops do not leave the occupied defence lines. (Fig. 3)
🔹In the #Lugansk Direction, counter fighting continued in the #Serebryanskoye forest area southeast of #Dibrova. The RF Armed Forces are attacking in the direction of #Terny, near #Kislovka and #Sinkovka.⚠️ The frontline has not changed significantly. (Fig. 4)

On the front line, the situation is "unspeakably grim" for Ukraine as the Russians counterattack there.
The only exception is the Kherson region, where "Ukraine made a brave (or reckless) push across the Dnieper River, with some minor advances towards Russian positions."
“The losses here are enormous, supply routes are problematic, and the prospects are vague,” the publication writes about the bridgehead in Krynki.
On the foreign policy front, the situation is also difficult.
“His (Zelensky - Ed.) team declared a symbolic victory in the EU accession negotiations, and he called it a sign that “history is made by those who never tire of fighting for freedom.” But for actual EU membership, the war must end, and it must end with Ukraine remaining a viable nation. Neither of these things is currently guaranteed," the article says.
Zelensky’s trip to the United States also “failed,” as CNN writes. “Even if Washington manages to resume funding early next year, this will already cause damage to Ukraine,” the publication writes.
In his opinion, the situation in Congress, which is blocking aid to Kiev, is “a stunning failure of American foreign policy, the consequences of which will reverberate in the coming decades.”

🇺🇸🇷🇺 The United States is tightening its position on the transfer of Russian assets blocked in the West to Ukraine - The Financial Times.
According to the newspaper, Washington has said that there is a path to asset confiscation “in accordance with international law.”
“Members of the G7 and other particularly affected states may seize Russian sovereign assets as a countermeasure to induce Russia to cease its aggression,” the US government said in a letter circulated to G7 committees.
The publication, citing officials, writes that the United States has begun “active negotiations” on this and is leading to the fact that this issue will be brought up for discussion at the next summit of the G7 leaders.
The next such summit is planned to be held on June 13-15 in Italy.

🇺🇦🤡 In Kiev, a monument to the crew of the Soviet armored train “Tarashchanets” was demolished, Ukrainian media report. It was loaded onto a truck and taken away.
The monument to the crew of the Tarashchanets armored train was located in the center of the park of the same name, not far from the Darnitsky railway station. The first monument was erected there back in 1939, but during the occupation of Kyiv by the Nazis in 1941-1943, it was destroyed. The new monument was erected in 1974, its author was the sculptor Valentin Znoba.
The monument was essentially a tombstone, since it was located at the burial site of the crew who defended the Darnitsky railway junction from the soldiers of the White Army of Anton Denikin.
