A 19th-Century Scientific Discovery

Article On the influence of music on the human body by physiologist I. R. Tarkhanov (late 19th century).

While Sebastian Kneipp was conquering the World with Hydrotherapy, a revolutionary idea was being born in Russian laboratories: treatment with sound. But unlike the mystics, Tarkhanov approached the issue as a true scientist.

What did he discover?

Using instruments (kimographs), he scientifically recorded for the first time how music changes our physiology:

- Accelerates or slows down the pulse and changes blood pressure.

- Increases muscle strength or, on the contrary, relaxes it.

- Deeply affects the rhythm of breathing and emotional state.

In essence, Tarkhanov found the "buttons" with which music directly controls our body, long before the concepts of "Binaural Rhythms" and "Sound Therapy" appeared.

Why is this important today?

This modest article is the foundation of modern Music Therapy. It proves that the healing power of sound is not esotericism, but a rigorous science with measurable effects.

In any case, the Chinese have known this for much longer. It is no coincidence that the ideograms for medicine and music are practically identical.
